Gwanryongsa Temple - 관룡사 (Changnyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do)

  1. Great description and wonderful photos, Dale. You really lucked-out on the spring weather w/ cherry blossoms that day!

    "this temple is famous for being one of eight locations that Wonhyo preached Hwaemgyeong to his followers." --> that's the Hwaeom-gyeong (Hwa-eom, Flower-Garland), the Avatamsaka Sutra, one of the most famous & important scriptures of Far Eastern Buddhism. It's the basis for the Hwaeom-jong Sect that Wonhyo's friend Uisang introduced to Korea after mastering it in China; Wonhyo took it up from his buddy with enthusiasm.

  2. Thank you, thank you. And thanks, as always, for sharing your expertise here on the blog. I think the highlight of Gwanryongsa was definitely the "in the field" stone totem poles. So rare. And the completely different styles of shaman paintings was quite interesting, as well.
